Mommy and Me Headband and Bows

Most days I put my hair up in a ponytail or I use a headband to keep it away from my face. I decided to make myself a fancy headband so I wouldn't feel like such a bum when I don't have time to do my hair. My daughter and I headed to my local ribbon store and I found some ribbon and lace I liked. I made my headband and I had enough ribbon leftover to make my daughter matching bows.

Of course I had this great plan of how I would wear my headband and my daughter would wear her hair bows and we would have this great mini photo session. Well my daughter refused to wear any bows the next day, oh kids!

I bought 2 yards of the lace and 1 yard of the ribbon. I had the Heat n Bond hem tape already as well as the elastic and hair clips. For the headband you will need to measure your head to see how long you need your ribbon and lace to be. I left an extra inch of lace at each end so I could wrap it around the elastic. Next use your Heat n Bond tape to attach the ribbon to the lace. Make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions and set your iron to medium heat so you don't burn your ribbon.

To make a headband take your elastic and fold over the extra inch of lace on each end and sew in place. Make sure you use enough elastic at the bottom of your headband to give it enough stretch. For the bow I cut the ribbon/lace to 8 inches. I then folded it in half and glued the ends down. I glued ribbon and a button for the center.

Now remember the Heat n Bond will make your bow firm so if you want to be less stiff you will need to sew the ribbon onto the lace instead.
