DIY Barbie Purse

I was over at my friend's house and one of her daughter's Barbies had a cute retro purse. I liked it so much I decided to make one for my daughter's Barbies. I finally got around to sewing it last night and I ended up making two matching purses. This is a great way to use up more of my scraps that I have been hoarding.

Cinderella is looking sharp, don't you think?  Can you tell my daughter really loves to play with her Barbies?

To make a purse cut fabric to a size of 2 inches by 4 inches. You will also need a ribbon that is 9 inches long. Take your piece of fabric and serger all sides.

Fold your piece of fabric so that you have a small top flap over the folded bottom, as shown above. Take your ribbon and fold the unfinished edges up slightly and sew in place. Both ends of your ribbon should now be "finished". Take your ribbon and starting at the the bottom of the purse fold your ribbon in half so it is covering the serger edges. Sew the ribbon along the ribbon edge. You will be sewing just the ribbon in the middle, this will be the purse handle. Continue to sew the ribbon making sure the end of your ribbon covers the end of your purse at the other side. I hope this makes sense because I forgot to take pictures of this step.

Matching purses, how awkward!
