How To Clean Pickle Jars

Day 2 of organizing is all about glass jars. Now I know using old food jars for storage isn't a new idea but it's a great idea. You don't need to buy anything and you can actually see what is inside each jar without having to label it. My favorite jars to use are old pickle containers because they are usually a good size and they have big mouths so I can stick my hand in.

The only problem with pickle jars is they stink like pickles BAD! Even after washing them and throwing all kinds of cleaning chemicals in them they still stink. I did some googling and I finally found a way to get the smell out, lemons.

So what I did was to fill each jar with water about 3/4 of the way. Then I would squeeze the juice of one lemon into the water and then throw the lemon in. Leave it overnight and in the morning just wash the jar with soap and warm water. Note this is for a standard size jar so if you use a bigger jar you will need more lemons. The lid still had a little bit of a pickle smell so I just glued some scrap fabric on it and that fixed it.
