Art Lab for Kids

My daughter loves to do arts/crafts and I love that it allows her to be creative. I use to love art class in school but sadly due to budget cuts these programs are being cut from school. I try to do lots of art with her at home, she loves to paint, but often I am searching for new projects to do with her. I was thrilled to review Art Lab for Kids.

This book is filled with 52 art projects suitable for all ages. There are drawing, painting, printmaking, paper, and mixed media projects. Various artists and their work are featured in the book including Georgia O'Keefe and Chuck Close. I am often at a loss when it comes to gift giving for kids. I don't want to get them toys or clothes because I am sure they will get plenty but this book would make a great gift.

I had an art party at my house this weekend and we decided to Lab 35 Paper Masks. My 14 year old sister made this cool mask using foam scraps, paper, and paint chips.

My 2 year old daughter was VERY into her mask. I have never seen her so quiet and she didn't want to stop when it was time to clean up. I think she could have kept creating for another hour.

Even my 18 year old sister had fun making her mask, we had quite a party. Next time we will try a painting project since my daughter loves paint so much. For more information on Susan Schwake, the author, visit and
