Sorbetto Birthday Top

It was my birthday this weekend and I originally planned to make myself a birthday outfit, a cute skirt and top. Then I realized it was January and I probably wouldn't have time to make both a skirt and shirt. Therefore I decided to just focus on the top and save the skirt for later time, closer to summer. I found a free pattern for the top that I loved from Coletterie, the Sorbetto top. I had bought this beautiful floral silk fabric at Joann on clearance for $3 a yard and I bought a yard and a half for the purpose of making a top a while ago and it's been sitting in my fabric bin for a while now. I finished it a couple of days before my birthday and I think it turned out great!

I added some sleeves, thanks mom for the help, because I didn't really like want to wear a tank in winter. This was my first time sewing darts and using such a silky material. Sewing the darts was really easy and working with the fabric was a little tricky at first but by the end of it I felt like a pro. For the sleeves my mom suggested we use the sleeves from a different pattern and it worked perfectly. Next time I use this pattern I will add about three inches to the length and make the front neckline scoop smaller. As for the pattern, it was really easy to follow the instructions to make the shirt as well as put the pattern together. The only negative thing I have to say about the instructions is that they failed to point out that you need to sew the darts on the wrong side of the fabric. Luckily I did sew it correctly so I didn't have to rip the stitching out. I have a giveaway planned for this week, hopefully I can get it up in the next couple of days.

  1. You did a great job on it! I love that fabric. Thanks for the link to the pattern! I have some fabric that would be perfect for it...if I start now I just might get it done by summer. LOL
