Setting 2012 Goals

The new year is here and as always it's time to make some new resolutions. Since I never keep my resolution, in fact it has been the same for four years now, I decided to make goals this year. The key to meeting your goals is to break them down into easy to accomplish tasks. You also need to set deadlines for yourself to ensure that you are on track. The main goals I want to meet in 2012 are to lose weight, save more money, take better care of my family, and allow myself to have some me time. I got to thinking about how I can break these goals down and what kind of deadlines I need to set for myself.

Now I have tried lots of diets, calorie counting, and joining gyms as a means to lose weight. It NEVER works, except for costing me money, so this year I decided to do things differently. My goal is to work out every day for 20 minutes, and after two months I will check my progress and adjust accordingly. The hubby and I really need to be more active so I am making this a top priority for both of us.

I have decided that in order to save more money I am going to limit our dining out to just once a month. This is going to be a big change for both my husband and I but in the end we will be saving a lot of money. In order to accommodate cooking more meals at home I will be increasing our weekly grocery budget by ten dollars.  Since this is going to be a hard one I am going to check our family progress after one month to make sure everything is going smoothly.

My family is the most important thing to me and so is their health. I have decided that we need to start eating healthier around here so I will be making one homemade version of some of our store bought items twice a month. I already have nutrigrain bars on my list. I also need to start taking better care of myself, I am part of my family after all, and I always put myself last. I have decided that I really need to get more sleep so I will be setting a bedtime for myself of 10:30 every night.

I really want to have some time set aside when I can work on my own stuff without having it be at the cost of my sleep. I have a wonderful husband who will gladly help me with our daughter if I just ask him to. I will be blocking off a couple of hours on Saturday as me time every week and my husband and daughter can have quality bonding time.

If you want to set your own goals for the new year there are lots of great free printables/resources.  Money Saving Mom has a goal planning worksheet and a little delightful has family and individual worksheets. Make sure to check back on Monday for a great giveaway!

  1. I really like that you've said goals and not resolutions! You have some great goals in mind. One of my goals is to be more active...which means not sitting here in front of the computer for hours on end! LOL It's going to be a tough one for sure! I think reevaluating after a month or two is a wonderful idea! And me time...very important and I hope you find it. :) I myself take one day on the weekend for me too. Usually it's Sunday when the boys are busy hanging out with dad. It does wonders for my attitude...even if I do absolutely nothing but clean house. Have a happy healthy new year!!
