Moving During the Holidays

During this holiday season I am reminded of how tough the economy is and how many people are considering moving because of it. Moving can be a serious pain because of all the packing, loading, unloading, and organizing. It takes a lot of time and energy. If you are considering moving, here are some great ways to make the process easier so you can spend less time working and more time enjoying the holidays!

1. Have the whole family help. Kids who are old enough should help pack up their rooms. Teach them how to fold and pack clothing and how to fit stuffed animals and toys in boxes. Make it a game and see who can pack a box of toys the fastest!

2. Save some money. The cost of moving can often be a tax write off if the move is for a job. In addition, many employers will cover the cost of a move for a new employee to relocate if their job requires them to relocate. Check to make sure you aren’t leaving any money on the table!

3. Get some help. Ask your friends with trucks to help you move things to your new home if you live close. If you are moving far away, hire a moving company to help transport items like appliances and large pieces of furniture. In addition, hire a car shipping company to ship your car instead of driving. The cost will often be less than it costs to buy gas to drive your car to your new home.
