Tutorial: 10 Minute Flower Clip

I have been seeing silk flower hair clips all over the place. I wanted to make one for myself and one for my daughter. Since my daughter is only a year and a half, I decided to make her a mini flower clip. I ended up making two for her since I couldn't decide if I wanted one or two flowers on a clip. I made the big purple one for myself.

Ribbon (I used 3/8 inch ribbon)
Hair Clip
Hot Glue Gun and Glue

Step 1: First we will cover our clip with ribbon. Drop a dot of glue on one edge of a piece of ribbon and quickly attach that edge to the pincher-side of the alligator clip. Hold until dry. Squeeze a line of hot glue down the ribbon where it will attach to the exposed metal of the alligator clip. Quickly press the glued side of the ribbon to the alligator clip. Repeat for the entire clip.

Step 2: Remove the flower from the stem. You will be left with the flower and the plastic that is holding the flower layers together.

Step 3: Remove the plastic piece and you will be left with flower layers, my flower had 3 layers of flower.

Step 4: Apply a small amount of glue in the middle of the bottom layer and place the middle layer on. Wait for it to dry. Do this for each flower layer.

Step 5: On the top most layer place a small amount of glue in the middle and place a rhinestone in the middle. Wait for it to dry.

Step 6: Place a small amount of glue on the bottom of your flower and place it on your clip.

That's it you're done. How quick and easy was that?! This would be a great project for a girl's birthday party and you won't have to worry about party favors.

  1. These are really cool, and I am going to have to try to make them for my little girl. I am commenting to try to win the little legs leg warmers. I also am "following" your blog! :)

  2. These are adorable! I never thought of adding flowers to the clips too!
