Valentine's Day Cake Pops

For Valentine's Day this year I decided to make cake pops, I couldn't find an easy custard pie recipe, and they turned out wonderfully. It took an hour to make 20 cake pops and 20 cake balls, I ran out of sticks, and I decorated them with little red hearts.


Ingredients
Cake Mix (1 box)
Cake Frosting (1 can 16oz)
Lollipop sticks (2 bags of 20)
Candy Coating (2 bags)
Cake Decorating Gel
Styrofoam Base

Directions
1. Bake the cake according to directions on box and wait for the cake to cool completely.
2. Crumble all of your cake in a bowl as fine as possible, no big clumps should be left.
3. Mix 3/4 of the container of frosting into the cake crumble until combined well. If you use the entire container the balls will be too moist and might not stay on the stick.
4. Roll one and a half inch balls and place on a parchment or foil lined pan. You should get roughly 40 balls.
5. Place the cake ball pan in the freezer for 15 minutes.
6. Meanwhile melt the candy coating according to the package directions.

Now to make the cake pops

7. Dip the tip of a stick into the melted candy coating.
8. Place the stick in the middle of a cake ball.
9. Dip the cake ball into the candy coating.
10. To get the excess candy coating off lightly tap the stick on the side of your bowl and rotate the stick.
11. Stick your cake pop into the Styrofoam base and allow to dry completely.
12. Using your cake decorating gel draw little hearts on your pops.


These cake pops were such a huge hit with my entire family that I plan on making some for St. Patrick's day. The next time though I plan on making my own cake batter and frosting, hopefully it won't be a huge disaster.

  1. i would really like to try making these...or, as the cook of the house, have my husband make some for me. that would be better!
