Tutorial: Fabric Framed Picture

I am very excited to be sharing my first tutorial with you. I hope all the directions are clear but if you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment. Do you have a piece of fabric you just adore? Do you have a scrap piece of fabric you just don't know what to do with?

You can use it to frame your picture!

You will need:
  1. A hot glue gun
  2. A fabric scrap of your choice
  3. A photo mat or construction paper cut out in the shape of a photo mat
  4. A pen or fabric marker
  5. Scissors

Step 1: Cut your fabric 1 inch bigger than your mat. For example my photo mat was 8x10 so I cut my fabric to 9x11.

Step 2: Place your photo mat on top of your fabric, remember to place it 1 inch in from the sides, and trace the inside square (where your photo will go) on your fabric.

Step 3: Now measure 1 inch in from the inside square and draw another square.

Step 4: Cut the newly drawn square out. Make sure you cut the innermost square out.

Step 5: Place your photo mat on top of your fabric and cut a slit at each of the 4 inside square corners.

Step 6: Cut a slit at each of the 4 outside corners.

Step 7: Now apply glue to each of the 8 sides and fold in. Tip: Point the glue gun tip at an angle in towards the mat edge.

This is what the back should look like once you are finished gluing.

Your finished! You can now put your photo and photo mat inside your frame. These framed photos make great gifts!
